How to Get Started in Your Neighborhood

Who Can Start a Caring Neighborhood?

  • Caring Neighborhoods photo 6Your friendly group of neighbors
  • Neighborhood associations
  • Neighborhood Watch groups
  • Youth leaders, girl and boy scouts
  • A caring neighbor….like YOU!

Who Benefits From A Caring Neighborhood?

  • YOU! Participating in a Caring Neighborhood today establishes a support network for your aging needs tomorrow.
  • SENIORS benefit by continuing to live safely and independently in their own homes.
  • OUR NEIGHBORHOODS! Developing close-knit, cooperative relationships establish a friendly atmosphere where neighbors are mostly likely to look out for each other and help out during hard times. Informal, daily contact among neighbors ties our communities together, whether it is saying "good morning" while picking up the paper, or reporting suspicious activity. Caring Neighborhoods helps all of us to live more safely and happily in our communities.

Start Today!

  • Caring Neighborhoods photo 7Contact Caring Neighborhoods and invite a representative to speak to you and your neighbors.
  • Work with the representative to create a SIMPLE and FLEXIBLE plan specific to YOUR neighborhood.
  • Establish friendly communication with your elderly neighbors, and offer a helping hand.
  • Encourage neighbors to participate in your caring neighborhood.
  • Inform other organizations in you neighborhood about your program and invite them to assist your group's effort.

The Caring Neighborhood Program is a collaborative effort between the City Of Sacramento Departments of Parks and Recreation Office of Older Adult Services and the County of Sacramento Adult and Aging Commission. The Caring Neighborhoods Program aims to raise the awareness about the special needs and issues affecting our neighborhood elderly. A small act of kindness by a thoughtful neighbor can make a world of difference in the life of a senior.
